How Boxers Stay Healthy

It has long been known that in terms of putting stress on the body, boxing is one of the most punishing sports there is.  Boxers take thousands of punches to the body and face in every fight and training is rigorous.  It is on the border of torturous to the body and requires hours upon hours of gym training and sparring with a partner to keep the physical fitness and mental awareness at its peak.  It takes a lot of work to be able to ‘float like a butterfly and sting like a bee,’ as Mohammed Ali so famously said.  With this much pressure being put on boxers to perform at the highest level, it really isn’t much of a surprise that some professional (and even amateur) boxers turn to heavy duty painkillers to aid them in their fights.

Some high profile boxing champions like Floyd Mayweather Junior have been seen and heard to be using painkillers like Lidocaine on their hands, and recently when he was struggling with injuries it has been even more so.  The dangers of this practice are numerous – the most prevalent of which is the inability to feel much pain in the hands, thereby making you hit harder which increases the possibility of being injured or worsen existing injuries.

On the 12th of November, two of the biggest names in boxing will square off, and while they might not have been shown to be using any strong painkillers, they are both machines at the top of their game.  Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manual Marquez III are scheduled to fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada – a fight that will not only see The Pac Man defending his WBO World Welterweight title but also millions of fans tuning in to the HBO Pay Per View broadcast to see two of the most highly ranked fighters in the sport square off in the ring.

Just watch Pacquiao vs Marquez live coverage and see how damaging boxing can be to ones general health!

Get yourself off the Couch

It is unfortunate that so many people will plop down on the couch when they get home from work and there they will stay. Even on their days off, they will watch TV for hours and not even think about getting outside or taking part in some form of exercise.

A gym membership could be the answer to this dilemma but you might think a membership will cost you an arm and a leg. Today, that idea is far from the truth because today you can join a gym with no contract involved.  If you live in the Cheltenham area, you can check out gym Cheltenham and be part of a no-frills health club.

This can get you out talking to others who also know how important exercise is to staying fit and healthy. The ladies will enjoy the area that is just for them and fitness classes are included.  So what is you reason for not getting off the couch?  When you get your body moving, you will not just look better but you will feel better also.   Taking better care of yourself is what living a long and happy life is all about so what are you waiting for?

Small steps in Change

Whenever you make a change in your life, do you notice that small steps work better than large ones?  If you are wanting to change what you eat, small steps are best because that is what will give you long-lasting results.  When you put your health at the top of your priority list, you will have more energy, you will look better and you will also be able to enjoy life more.

Spending more time in your kitchen might be new for you.  Many people eat out often and this might be convenient, but preparing your own meals is not only cheaper but better for your health.  You might purchase kitchen appliances that will make your preparations easier and faster and your kitchen cabinets might also need to be up-dated.

When you set realistic goals for your health, you will be on the right path to making your food choices easier.  Invest in your health because it is yours and it should be the most important thing you do each day for yourself.  Our world is fast paced but we must reacquaint our self with the nutrition our bodies need to live long and productive lives.

Staying Fit

How do you stay fit?  Do you lift weights at the gym, do you run marathons or maybe you run the stairs at your local stadium.  What you choose to do to keep you body fit and trim is your choice and you have many choices.  If you are a member of a gym, you already know they usually offer all kinds of classes that any member can attend. These can include cardio classes, muscle toning, spinning and others that both men and women can take part in.

Some gyms offer racquetball and most will also have a pool.  Swimming laps in a pool will work every muscle in your body and that is a fact that few people know.  It is possible you could get hooked on swimming and then you might want to have your own pool so you can swim more often.  Families find pools the perfect place to get together, BBQ and just hang out and visit.

An in-ground pool can be expensive to have installed and you need to have the room for it.  Because of this cost and the cost of up-keep, many people are now choosing an above-ground pool.   Garden swimming pools come in many shapes and sizes and adding a pool to your backyard will certainly raise the value of your home.
