Stopping smoking has nothing but benefits for your health, however it is no easy task. Here are ten tips that will help you.
1. Decide that you want to quit. I know this sounds obvious but you should make sure that it is you that wants to quit. Doing it because you feel pressured into it by a loved one is a sure way to fail.
2. Set yourself a date to quit. Once this date arrives, declare yourself no longer a smoker.
3. Make sure to ask your doctor for advice, this is especially important if you are worried about things such as weight gain etc.
4. Try to find a quitting partner. If you don’t know anyone else who would like to give up then maybe have someone that you can share your goals with.
5. Make sure your friends and family will support you. You may get short tempered or moody whilst giving up, make sure that they are aware of this.
6. Try to start eating healthier or working out. You are making a positive change, why not make some more steps in the right direction.
7. Know what triggers your desire. If you have tried to give up before and failed, maybe try some smoke deter pills.
8. Make a plan of what to do when you get a craving. Deep breathing, a short walk or other ways of keeping yourself occupied will help to deter you from having a cigarette.
9. Find something to do with your hands. Many people say that they miss having something to do with their hands, just try not to do anything that is bad for your teeth such as chewing a pen.
10. Be positive and confident. You know that you can quit and that there are nothing but benefits.
